For our first entry, we have the Fitness Cracker Challenge. We will be comparing three crackers that can be bought from your local grocery or store, here in the Philippines. These are: Skyflakes Fit with Omega 3 (the newest flavor from Skyflakes), Skyflakes Fit Oat Fiber Crackers and Rebisco Crackers with Whole Wheat.
Let’s cut the chase.
All three came in very convenient plastic wraps. They were all attractive to look at. Skyflakes in the green packaging was easily associated with being of something healthy, organic or wheat-like in nature. While Resbico, although also said ‘crackers with whole wheat ‘ in a green background, emphasized more on the 4 big pieces inside each pack. I think this is a great strategy since people on a diet always think that they will have crackers to replace their meal and therefore, they need something filling. Being bigger and thicker makes people perceive them as more satisfying and filling.
Winner: Rebisco Crackers with Whole Wheat
I have made a chart to compare the nutritional value of the three crackers.
In terms of calories, Skyflakes Fit Oat Fiber Crackers has the lowest calories on a calorie per gram basis. It has 4.2 cal per gram. It’s followed by Rebisco at 4.68 per gram then Skyflakes with Omega 3 at 4.8 cal per gram.
Winner lowest cal / gram: Skyflakes Fit Oat Fiber Crackers
The most basic taste would be Skyflakes Fit Oat Fiber. It has the simple taste of ordinary crackers. Rebisco Crackers with whole wheat has a smoky taste, so the saltiness of the crackers stand out. The most unique taste would be Skyflakes with Omega 3. It has a herbal flavor that is quite different from the two previously tasted. There is hint of garlic when you bite into it.
Winner in taste: Skyflakes with Omega 3
Personally, if you’re going with healthy crackers, go with the one that will keep make you happy, not make you feel deprived, will keep you on track and not make you shift to your usual junk food. I recommend Skyflakes with Omega 3 since it has a delicious flavor that will satisfy your palette.
