Benjamin Gubatina Cam Sur Iron Man

In the recently concluded 70.3 Cobra Ironman competition in Camarines Sur, Pete Jacobs of Australia bagged first place with a time of 3:58:41. It was also a victorious day for young and new triathlete Benjamin Gubatina. This 22 year old aspiring top notch athlete was seventh to finish in his category and he with this, he will be able to make it and compete in the World Championships in Clearwater, Florida this coming November.

Joining the World Championships in Clearwater, Florida is a dream come true for this young triathlete. Benjamin just started competing and training for different triathlon events last year. He is relatively new in this sport and has joined just 8 competitions so far. He has joined 3 sprint triathlons (10 miles or more depending on course), 3 olympic triathlons (31.1 miles or more depending on course), and 2 Half-Ironman competitions (70.3 miles). His previous competition was at Kona, Hawaii, where he was just one person away for qualifying for the Triathlon World Championships in Clearwater, Florida.

Benjamin flew back to California after the Camarines Sur Cobra Ironman 70.3 competition. He vows to train well for the upcoming competition this November. He says that he may join one more competition this coming September to keep in shape. For his training, he has a coach that makes him do at least two of each activities a day (bike and run, swim and run, swim and bike, etc.) For his diet, he says that there are no strict rules, but he makes it a point to try to eat lean meat and a lot of carbohydrates. He says that he loves the dishes at Figaro Coffee and was ecstatic that we had this interview at Figaro in Shangri-la mall.

This son of Victor and Mary Gubatina is also a Jui Jitsu competitor and coach. It seems like this amazing athlete will definitely make it big in the world of sports. We hope that he makes our country proud and serves as an inspiration to the young Filipinos all over the world.
