I have to admit that I was hesitant to try this at first. Although I have been into fitness all of my life, when I reached my 30s, I have accepted the fact I would not and could not be as fit as I was before. My friends tell me that there is still such a thing as muscle memory, but I think my muscles have Alzheimers. They can’t seem to recall the things that they were capable of doing two decades ago.
Oh my! Two decades ago! That just sounds so old! A part of me wanted to prove that I am still capable of high intensity training and hard-core circuit trainings. A part of me still wants to achieve that hotness and sexiness that most (if not all) women aspire for. Recently, I showed a picture of Iza Goulart, this Victoria’s Secret Model that I idolize, to my husband and he wasn’t pleased. He hates it that I aspire to have “cuts” here and there. He says that he still likes women with curves. But anyway, I still turned a deaf ear on him and decided to try out Crossfit Striking.
Okay, back to my hesitation. I have heard from the grapevine that this is really hard-core stuff, so I kinda delayed trying it out a bit, just so I could gather enough courage. Of course, when I was invited by my cousin, Lala who runs Crossfit Striking, I couldn’t say no. What I did also was to go with my sister and my husband to try it out, as if bringing two people with me could do anything to make me feel more prepared. We were also meeting with a long time friend, Mich and of course, Lala.
When I got to the place, the ambiance was what I expected it to be. There were some medicine balls on the shelf of various weights, jump ropes hanging at a corner, gloves also on the shelves and 6 punching bags at the end of the room.
There was a wall with the schedule written and another wall that says this…
That easy will no longer suffice?? This didn’t help me calm down. Lol! Anyway, the coach for the 11 am, Saturday class was Coach Jericho. I saw the community board on the site and he was one of those who had before and after pictures. He lost a lot of weight. I didn’t get to verify though if it was because of Crossfit.
Crossfit has been in the Philippines for quite sometime now. Crossfit Striking is a branch of Crossfit that is a high intensity workout system that uses body-weight exercises and kettlebell moves combined with heavy bag striking using all limbs — hands, elbows, knees, feet derived from different martial arts like Muay Thai and Boxing (thus the use of gloves). From that description, I gathered that it’s basically like circuit training since the workout allows you to develop strength, endurance gains and cardiovascular conditioning from high intensity workouts.
Before the 11AM class, I was watching the 10AM class and they were doing different things at the same time.
