Looking Forward to the Next 2 Weeks

I am looking forward to this next two weeks of going back to my South Beach diet again. I was so inspired by my friend who lost weight doing the Cohen’s diet. She started at 178 pounds and is now down to 118 pounds. How cool is that? I asked her and the niece of my godmother to write guest posts here. Hopefully they agree to do it so that we can learn from what they have undergone.

So just to give you a bird’s eye view of what I plan to achieve in a month’s time. I am actually getting ready for a summer outing for my grandmother’s birthday on August 4. Not that I plan to wear a bikini in front of my family (no way, jose!) But I plan to look my best in whatever outfit I plan to wear on that day. My husband does not get it. He does not get that we girls love to plan attires and ‘looking hot’ even if it’s in front of relatives, whom you normally get to see anyway.

So what is my plan for the next few weeks? First, to again go on the South Beach diet. Luckily, our helper is trained to prepare dishes for us. She was trained under 25 Mushroom’s kitchen (they hold classes in valle verde 5 for household help). Here is the facebook page! (25 Mushrooms Kitchen).

During my first round on the South Beach diet, I lost from 139 pounds to 132-133 pounds. The weight loss was actually noticeable. I got a lot of comments that I was losing weight. Here is a picture of my weight tracking app / weight loss app:

I gained weight today, since we experimented on the ‘griller’ last night and I attempted to cook steak!

Steak that I tried cooking!

Yum, right? But I was more impressed by mu husband’s weight loss. Check this out!

He started with a weight of 199 pounds and dropped to 185 pounds!

So I am pretty excited to lose more weight for this round. My base weight is at 133 pounds. I plan to bring this down to 125 pounds in two weeks :) I think I will need to change my wardrobe already by then.

In these two weeks, I plan to run at least three times a week on the treadmill. My diet will end on June 24. On June 25, I will be going back to eating carbohydrates and will already start attending the Fitness Bootcamp of Coach Jim Saret: http://manilafitness.com/2012/05/07/coach-jim-sarets-fitfil-fitness-boot-camp.html

That’s my plan! I surely do hope it works. I’ll keep you posted!

South Beach Diet – Day 7 (One week)

Yipee! I lost 5 pounds in a span of one week! I’m already at 134 pounds. I started with a weight of 139 pounds. Not bad, right? I think the South Beach is diet that you can actually maintain. I was fortunate enough to have a cook at home who can just our meals for us. A lot of friends and family of friends order from different companies who deliver to their homes the dishes for each day. I think it costs them around Php 600-Php 800 pesos per day.

Just some general observations in this one week that I was on this diet:
1. Don’t forget to drink a lot of water. I noticed that I get full with water so I don’t crave that much for food. This is very important, so that you can flush out the fats and help you to prevent constipation.
2. The food was actually good. I feel full after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I just feel sad sometimes that I can’t eat junk food, but it was worth the sacrifice.
3. If you are hungry between meals, you can take peanuts.
4. I noticed that I was weaker than usual, so I took time to ‘just’ walk and let go of running at least for this week.
5. Stay with a group that can offer motivation and support. It helps to be with people who are also going on a diet.

That’s it! I plan to continue this diet for 1 more week. Let us see if I can break the 130 pounds barrier. :)

South Beach Diet – Day 5

It’s a Saturday. Sorry, guys, but I forgot to weigh today. I woke up at 2:45 am in the morning since I was an organizer for our Company’s run. I was already supposed to be at Ultra in a few minutes. I woke up and I was still groggy, so I forgot to do my usual routine.

Anyway, my morning went well. The run was super fun. I didn’t get to join, but I do plan to join next year (hopefully by then, I won’t be in this diet). I didn’t feel hungry at any time during the event. I think it was the adrenaline and the anticipation :) I also was enjoying myself, so I guess, it didn’t occur to me that my last meal was at 7:30 in the evening.

I got to go home at around 8:30am. As usual, breakfast was delicious. Check this out!

Day 5 - South Beach Diet Breakfast

Day 5 - South Beach Diet Breakfast

Again, it was primarily made out of egg, but today, the circular looking omelette had brocolli and cheese in it. The consistency was like souffle — it was light and fluffy. I even like that some of the part were crispy (unusual and weird!).

I was so tired that I slept again after breakfast. I woke up at 11, just before lunchtime. I got to eat lunch at 12:30 pm. Lunch was this:

Day 5 - South Beach Diet Lunch

Day 5 - South Beach Diet Lunch

The main ‘meat’ in this was shrimp. It was mixed with red bell peppers and onions. The dish had a hint of sweetness and I actually found this dish appetizing. I loved the sauce. I wanted to take in even the sauce, but it was already mixed with oil.

In the evening, I had chicken with mushrooms. The sauce was white and creamy. I don’t know though, what the ingredients our household help used for this. It tasted like well cooked chicken dipped in carbonara sauce.

Oh, by the way, in between meals, I just had the less grease peanuts by Growers. Well, we will see what that effect of this will be on Monday. Monday will be Day 7 (one week) of my South Beach Diet.

South Beach Diet: Day 3

It’s a Thursday and there are two reasons to be happy. One is that tomorrow’s a Friday and the other reason is that I have lost 3 pounds already. Weight check: 136.6. But, of course, I need to keep this weight down and continue this diet. It may have just been water weight. We’ll never know until I get to maintain it for at least two weeks.

With this south Beach Diet, I expect to lose a few more pounds. Don’t worry friends, I plan to do it just for two weeks.

Okay, so for my food for today, I was given egg omelet with mushrooms, spinach and shrimp as filling. I was again so delicious. With the food choices given to me, I don’t really feel as if I was deprived of anything. I only get to feel deprived in between meals. When people are out snacking, I take a pack of peanuts, and that’s what I munch on.

For lunch, guess what? I had super good and tender beef cubes. I had around three cubes. I ate it with the delicious salad with a sweet-but-a-bit-sour sauce. It was also delish! For dinner, I had salmon cakes. Check this out!

i wasn’t as light headed anymore as I was on the first day. Although, at times, I still feel the craving for junk food. I hope to lose more weight in the coming days. See you on Sunday for my Saturday review! :)

South Beach Diet: Day 1

People say that I’m not fat. My husband shut me up if I go into a long monologue about how I need to diet and how I don’t feel pretty anymore. I think, women oftentimes go through this phase, and they go through it a lot. We are worried more about getting fat than not finding mr. right. I think I am going through this phase of wanting to look better and wanting to look great.

I am 139 pounds. I am 5 feet and 4 inches tall. I am a medium and my UK size is 10. I have normal BMI. I’m not overweight. People don’t really consider me fat. I think people would see me as someone with a normal built. Even if this is so, I still want to go on a diet and want to shed off some weight.

South beach profile

Recently, my dad and sister went through this diet. My dad lost 10 pounds in two weeks and my sister lost 6 pounds. I think I would be happy with ten pounds, but more would make me happier. Before I started, I wanted to understand how South Beach worked. I browsed through this site: South Beach Diet

Now, who would make my meal. Basically, our household help went through a cooking class for South Beach. This was a class by 25 Mushrooms Kitchen. You can visit their facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/25-Mushrooms-Kitchen/265457242131

So great, now that you have all been oriented as to how I am, now let me take you through this journey.

DAY 1
Breakfast was not bad… not bad at all.

South Beach Diet Day 1

South Beach Diet Day 1

This was breakfast, and I was not being sarcastic about my comment. It was scrambled egg with cheese, spinach and mushrooms mixed into it. I thought it would not last me until lunch, but it did! I had my breakfast at 7am.

For lunch, i had grilled chicken breast with vinaigrette mixed with tomato and basil. It was again so delicious. I had lunch at 12 noon. At around 2, I had a little bit of a headache. It is very important to hydrate. I think I was a bit dehydrated during that time. I bought lite greaseless peanuts for my mid-afternoon snack. I just had a few, since I was busy working.

At 6:00 pm, I wanted to go out for a run, but just couldn’t. I felt weak. I just went home and rested. I might jog tomorrow morning though. Dinner was lean meat with an amazing tomato based sauce with mushroom. I ate at 8pm. It is now 9:30 pm and I feel pretty weak. I think i’m still not used to this diet. I’m too tired to think. I think I better rest.

General Motors Diet: Day 3

DAY 3
It was day three yesterday. I was supposed to eat a mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice of any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet. No potatoes also.

Rationale behind it:
Day Three eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from the fruits. You system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will still have cravings which should start to diminish by day four.

Personal Experience
I woke up around 7:00 and I had a bowl of cauliflower and broccoli. I also had grapes and pears. I went up to my room after and started blogging. By 10:30 am, I was pretty much hungry again. I don’t know if I had too little of the veggies and fruits, but I was hungry. I waited though until 12 noon and eat a full plate of the boiled cauliflower and broccoli and ate two big slices of papaya.

I knew that we were going to have mass at 4pm and dinner at 8pm so I pretty much made myself full. And I was really full indeed. We heard mass at 4 but halfway through the mass, I really felt like fainting. I had cold sweat. I told my husband if we could pass by my house for a light snack. My mom even asked me if I was sleepy. I said I was a bit nauseated.

I passed by my house to have a mango. We went to dinner at Kirin. But to tell you honestly, I cheated. I didn’t feel well anymore. I ate peking duck! haha! I am writing this down since it’s the first diet that I couldn’t prolong. I think it’s because of the imbalance of nutrition. I have lost weight with South Beach and even a low calorie diet (which I will take you through after this GM diet), but I never gave up before.

I weighed myself this I am back to 133 lbs. (still 1 pound lighter than when I started), with 31.4 fat % and 50.2 water %.

Hope my experiences help you! When you go through this diet, be sure that you drink well and stuff your self every time with all these veggies and fruits. It will probably help you not cheat. And do not do anything that requires a lot of energy! :)

I’ll still continue with Day 4 today. Today will be all bananas and milk!
